The New Message Does Not Settle the Original Window
At 20:20 on Thursday, Tang Ke received a new reply from the commissioning party on the agreed channel: "The reception time still cannot be fixed for this one." She handed the original message to Gu Ning, preserving the times of receipt and of delivery. The message concerns R17's current reception period; it is not the station's own scheduling note.
Gu Ning said this material must enter the record. The morning's original reply already said the time would need checking; now the other side states plainly that it still cannot be determined. It has not accepted all the conditions of the first version, nor has it said that confirmation before 17:00 on Friday is impossible.
This chapter continues the fictional Chengwan. What is added here is one explicitly stipulated original reply; the complete confirmation event is still not established as known, and the window has not ended. That the station can arrange a slot and that the commissioning party cannot yet determine the time can both hold at once; the new message does not change the subject of the station's note.
So-called adverse material must first be asked: adverse to which claim? This message directly restricts the assumption that the reception condition can proceed smoothly, but it does not deny that "the list was received" ever happened, nor does it automatically negate the historical fourfold counts. Revision must find the relation; it cannot expand one bad piece of news into the invalidation of the whole table.
Unfavorable Material, Unfavorable Realization, and Recording Error Are Separate
Unfavorable material can appear within the window and change what we take the future to be; an unfavorable realization is an outcome, adjudicated on sufficient material for the original event, that fails to match a higher affirmative degree. The 20:20 reply belongs to the former kind, not yet the latter.
A recording error is different again. If "the station can arrange" were written down as "the commissioning party has accepted," that is a mistake in the use of material; when the error is found it can be corrected, without waiting for the final confirmation or its absence. Even if confirmation later really arrives, the problem of having overstepped the note's use remains.
A change of object must also be recorded separately. If the commissioning party were to propose a new reception period, or change the task scope, a new version might need to be established. The current new sentence says only that the time cannot yet be fixed and gives no revised version; we may not invent another set of conditions on the other side's behalf.
These situations can follow one another, but they do not share one automatic reaction. Seeing a material error means correcting the use of material; seeing a change of object means correcting the object relation; seeing an unfavorable realization means preserving the result and checking the model. Writing uniformly that "things have gotten worse" easily omits the position that actually needs to change.
First State Which Layer of the Old Judgment Is Restricted
On the revision page Gu Ning wrote that what is currently restricted is the assumption that the reception condition can proceed smoothly. That assumption still has an undecided part, and the new direct message shows that this part has not been settled even now.
The old rough B still stands: at 11:20 a reply was obtained that explicitly stated the list had been received. The new message does not erase the old fact of receipt. But if one wanted to adopt the current probability directly from the rough B candidate three quarters alone, one would have to face the fact that the complete reply and the later status never entered the historical condition table.
This does not mean the historical conditional frequency should be changed to another number. That table still describes the original eight items. What needs to contract is its direct transplantation onto the current object—not turning three confirmations into two to reflect a mood.
A revision note can therefore change the adoption status without yet changing the value. For example, it can state that the candidate scenario is no longer sufficient to carry the current prediction alone, and that how the unsettled-time condition is to be handled needs separate explanation. Without sufficient quantitative support, there is no need to invent a lower number at once.
A Plausible Direction Is Not Yet an Obtained Magnitude
Tang Ke asked, should we subtract one tenth from three quarters? Gu Ning said that subtracting one tenth can be an assumption to be discussed, but the new sentence supplies no statistical weight of one tenth. We cannot write a change as though the material naturally implied it merely because the number looks moderate.
The new reply is directly related to the reception period in the target and deserves focused checking. Yet the degree of unsettled time in the historical B group, its resolution processes, and the times of receipt have not been fully organized; there is still no count corresponding to this condition.
A recorder may form a subjective probability under explicit assumptions, without requiring every change to rest on a large-sample table. But she should state how the number was formed and which magnitudes came from judgment, rather than claim that the original words already gave an exact deduction.
Likewise, one cannot subtract a fixed one tenth for every unfavorable message. If several messages all retell the same pending status, repeated deductions would again turn processing counts into new content. Direction, increment, and magnitude must each be interrogated separately.
A Second Original Reply May Also Update Only Part
The new message in this chapter does come from the commissioning party; it is another original reply, not Ye Cheng's retelling. Yet it shares with the morning's original reply the question of the still-unresolved reception time. A new original does not automatically mean a fully independent evidential contribution.
What it adds is the explicit status at a later time: as of 20:20, the other side still cannot determine it. It does not say the morning checking was ever completed, does not say the payment conditions or the task scope have been accepted, and gives no concrete reason for the continuing uncertainty.
We can preserve this status and re-examine the remaining window and the candidate's applicability. We cannot, with independence unknown, assign it an arbitrary likelihood ratio and multiply it mechanically with the morning's B.
The directness of the new material makes the subject clear, but its scope of effect remains limited. A direct message does not thereby answer every question; an adverse message is not, because it worries us, granted a wider negative meaning than its original text bears.
One Unfavorable Realization Is Not a Logical Counterexample to the Whole Model
Leaving the mainline, take an independent forecast that ex ante adopted 0.7 and was later adjudicated, on sufficient material, as not held. This result should be preserved; the per-item squared loss is 0.49, and it should not be rewritten as having originally reported only 0.3.
The 0.7 allowed non-holding, so one non-holding does not by itself constitute a logical contradiction in the probability model. If the original model had instead claimed that the event must hold under the corresponding conditions, the problem would be different. Degrees of probability and categorical assertions must be checked against the original sentences.
This does not exempt the 0.7 judgment from criticism. One can examine the correspondence of material, the conditional assumptions, and the grounds of adoption; one can also check, in cross-event records, how the 0.7 group performed. What is needed is evidence of the corresponding scope, not the substitution of one final outcome for all testing.
Conversely, one holding does not complete the proof of the original model either. Keeping the same standard of examination for favorable and unfavorable realizations alike prevents the model from expanding without limit in success and retreating, in failure, into empty talk that any outcome can accommodate.
Repeated Deviation Gives the Question a New Scope
If a group of judgments actually adopted at 0.7 shows a holding frequency in comparable long-run records markedly below 0.7, the corresponding scope can be reopened. This requires stating the counts, the adjudication status, the dependencies, and the batches—not just excerpting a few failure stories.
The deviation may involve overestimating some class of conditions, but it may also involve a changed task scope, selection at the material entrance, or label errors. The calibration page describes the correspondence; the revision page then proposes competing explanations. A low frequency cannot directly announce the discovery of the unique cause.
If the counts are few or the structure unstable, the problem can still be recorded and left pending, without claiming a formal testing conclusion. Waiting for more material must have an explicit entrance and cannot become an excuse for never checking the old model.
The force of a revision should follow its support. If some class of conditions is repeatedly restricted, that class's use can be contracted; the tasks as a whole having gone unexamined does not warrant extending the conclusion to all judgments being invalid. Contracting the scope and abandoning everything outright are two different decisions.
Counterexamples Must Not Be Continually Moved Out of the Definition
Suppose requests with already-clear conditions were originally brought into a model; later one of them failed to be confirmed, and the recorder then says it was not, after all, genuinely clear. Without corresponding material, if the classification changes only after failure, the model's entrance has been rewritten by the final outcome.
A genuinely misclassified object can be corrected, but one must point to the place in the original material that fails the condition. If an object is moved out merely because the outcome is unwelcome, the known adverse result loses its constraint.
Likewise, one cannot keep all successes as typical, explain all failures as exceptions, and then use the remaining objects to prove reliability. Exceptions sometimes genuinely exist, but the rule for recognizing them must have a place in the material.
Chengwan's historical three non-holdings remain; a later possibility of cooperation does not revoke them. The current new reply likewise cannot be described as the other side merely speaking casually and so kept out of the record, unless specific material supports that restriction of use.
A Hidden Cause Is an Assumption, Not an Exemption from Checking
A recorder may say that this failure to confirm must have some hidden cause, and that the original model remains correct. Reality may indeed contain conditions not obtained; but admitting the possibility differs from having found the cause.
If a hidden cause can explain any failure, yet offers no checkable material and no condition for reopening, it has not helped the revision. It only gives the old model an exit unconstrained by outcomes.
One may propose a candidate—for example, a scheduling conflict elsewhere—and then state what would have to be obtained to check it. The candidate cannot immediately be written as fact about the commissioning party, still less be used to cancel the actual window outcome or the original score.
In this chapter's mainline, the new reply gives no reason for the indeterminacy. Gu Ning can list questions to ask, but she will not fill in family arrangements, equipment failures, or other concrete obstacles on the other side's behalf. Where the cause is unknown, the cause unknown should be preserved.
Contraction Takes Several Different Forms
One form of contraction is lowering the current value, on the precondition that the corresponding judgmental basis is formed; another is narrowing the objects of application—for example, adopting the figure only within the scope where the reception condition corresponds; one may also keep the formula while ceasing to apply it directly to the current object.
The content of the conclusion may also need reduction. Contracting "the other side has substantially accepted" to "the other side explicitly states the list was received" is a correction of the statement's use, not a numerical update. Writing every contraction as a fall in probability conceals different kinds of work.
If some material is found to have been double-counted, the duplicate contribution should be revoked and the actual model recomputed. What changes here are the inputs and the algorithm; there is no need simultaneously to declare that the commissioning party's real attitude has worsened.
The revision page therefore first writes the object of the change, then the basis and the new status. Only when the reader knows which layer was changed can she judge whether the change suffices, whether it goes too far, and what still needs checking afterward.
Contracting Is Not Deliberately Reporting More Conservatively
Facing adverse material, a recorder may, to avoid further criticism, push all future probabilities down. Such a practice may relieve a certain pressure of responsibility, but it does not obtain a more accurate degree from pressure alone.
If the original problem was confusion of subjects, the subject should be corrected; if the problem was an omitted time condition, the condition should be added; only if the original probability genuinely overestimated within the corresponding scope should the degree be re-formed for that scope. Revision needs correspondence; a pessimistic tone cannot do the material's work.
Underestimation can also appear in later diagnosis, and being more cautious does not exempt it from checking. The expectation property of scoring likewise never said the lower the better; it requires the report to correspond to the careful judgment.
Contraction therefore means letting the claim follow the actual support, not pre-selecting a direction that will never look bold. Favorable material arriving later can also prompt re-adoption, again with the specific grounds preserved.
When the Object Changes, Do Not Pretend Only the Number Changed
If the commissioning party later proposes another reception period, Gu Ning must first ask whether a second version is formed. The first-version window event and second-version acceptance may be different objects; one cannot merely lower and then raise the probability in the original column.
A new version also cannot automatically erase the first version's result. If the first version was not established in the original window, that is preserved; if it had long since been completely confirmed and was later modified, the modification does not deny that receipt ever occurred. The adjudication basis is checked against the original definition.
The new sentence in this chapter proposes no other period, so it only updates the current material status. Possible version changes are left as comparison cases and are not written into the mainline task page in advance.
This object checking protects evaluation and continuation. Otherwise every change of conditions would be called a probability update, and the ledger, seeing the same number, would not know how many different questions a set of numbers had actually answered.
Renewed Searching Must Correspond to the Restricted Relation
Gu Ning can examine the current meaning of the reception condition, and she can look back at whether the historical B group contains similar pending content. But the two searches serve different positions: the former clarifies R17; the latter helps check how the candidate table applies.
If one searches only among achievement cards for the resolution stories of successful objects, the display entrance may still restrict what is found. The examination of adverse material should return to the original registration and the original correspondence; the most easily told experience cannot substitute for historical fields not obtained.
What is not known must also be preserved during the search. That some historical material never mentioned a pending time does not prove none existed; classification is possible only when the fields suffice for adjudication. Gaps must not be conveniently filled with comparison objects favorable to the current view.
This chapter has not restored these historical contents. The revision page records the scope of pending searches and does not claim a new conditional statistic has been completed. Having produced a concrete next question is itself a handable piece of progress.
The Revision Note Does Not Overwrite the Original Adoption
In an independent object that already had a numerical forecast, if the decision later moves from 0.7 to 0.5, the new time of issue and the added basis should be preserved. The original 0.7 remains as it stood on its then-current information; one cannot let the past vanish by changing the number in the same cell.
If the original forecast was never formed, as with the current R17, what is revised is the candidate's use and the understanding of the material. It cannot be written as "the original formal forecast fell from three quarters," because no such adoption record exists.
This distinction is what makes the change evaluable. Later one can examine both the original judgment and the revised one; if the object is the same, the outcome relation is preserved, and if the object changed, it is connected separately.
Revision is not the manufacture of a smarter version of the past, but the giving of clearer conditions to the next adoption. The original gap, error, or adverse result is preserved, so that one knows what the change actually targets.
State First What Would Reopen the New Judgment
If the new status is only "the candidate scenario is not used for now," what follows must still state how to continue. Gu Ning wrote the reopening items as: obtaining an explicit reception condition, obtaining the corresponding historical fields, or reaching the original deadline and checking the result.
These items need not all occur, nor is each guaranteed to yield a higher probability. They only mark which changes of material would affect the current adoption, so that every handover does not have to guess anew why the item is still pending.
If some search long yields nothing, one may decide to pause the search effort, keeping the gap and the reason. Stopping the search is a work arrangement; it is not proof that the gap is irrelevant, nor failure of the target.
The reopening conditions should admit material running in the opposite direction too. For example, an explicit statement that the other side still cannot accept the original period would also affect the judgment; one cannot wait only for good news before considering an update worthwhile. The entrance is open to concrete content, not only to the hoped-for ending.
After Revision, the New Batch Must Still Be Checked
A batch of adverse results prompting the addition of a time field is a reasonable candidate improvement. But once the field is added, the new classification, values, and adoption still need checking; the seriousness of the revision's motive does not prove the improvement.
The old batch helps form the modification; the new batch helps observe how the modification continues. One can back-compute the old batch to see relations, but that differs from the newly issued actual performance, which does not appear early just because the back-computed score fell.
If the added field is hard to obtain at forecast time, this limitation must also be faced. A classification knowable only after the outcome can help explain, but it has not thereby become a usable ex-ante input.
So the revision page writes not only what to look at, but when it can be seen, how it would be adjudicated, and how to express it if it cannot be obtained. The more concrete the conditions, the better the sequel can distinguish a genuine improvement from yet another story written along the ending.
Different Candidates Need Not Be Kept or Withdrawn Together
Gu Ning split the current candidates into several positions. The historical rough B may supply one clue; the morning reply's time-still-to-check content needs additional handling; the station's scheduling provides only the station's condition; the effect of the attached-sentence process remains an unimplemented question of comparison.
The new message enters the second position directly, and it also restricts any expression that treats the whole reception condition as proceeding smoothly. It has not by itself revoked the count in the first position, still less completed the effect test in the fourth. With the candidates split apart, revision need not choose between believing everything and abandoning everything.
If a condition some candidate depends on is directly negated, that candidate's adoption can stop; if only the support has lessened, the scope can be contracted; if a new original merely clarifies the subject, the use can be corrected. Handling each place separately lets the judgment hold together without a single blanket label.
This also avoids another post-hoc selection: declaring, whichever candidate most easily explains the new message, that it had been our model all along. New material can change the ranking of candidates, but the time and basis of the change must be recorded, rather than letting the earlier different candidates vanish from memory.
Remaining Time Needs Process Grounds to Be Quantified
From 11:20 to 20:20, nine hours have passed, and the original deadline is still Friday 17:00. The time record is accurate, but one cannot directly derive how much probability should be deducted per hour. The target and the message-handling process are not fully described by a clock.
If one intends to quantify the effect of the long-unconfirmed state, one must state how the periods in which confirmation might arrive were originally understood, whether the current non-receipt corresponds to non-occurrence, and what the evening's new reply adds. History gives only one window count, not an arrival distribution for each period.
Remaining time therefore genuinely enters the current question, but the magnitude of the update still requires assumptions. We can neither convert nine hours into nine independent bad messages, nor hold that time means nothing because the deadline has not yet arrived.
The endpoint of the original question is unchanged; the position of issue has changed. Subsequent adoption should preserve the new time point and material scope, and must not write later knowledge back as known at 10:00. Time's role belongs in the model's explanation, not in an arbitrary deduction expressing anxiety.
The Successor Needs to See What Has Not Changed
Besides the new status, the revision note may briefly indicate the relations that still hold. The first version's content, the channel of receipt, and the deadline are unchanged; the subject of the station's scheduling note is unchanged; the historical counts have not been redone; the candidate process is still unimplemented.
These preserved items help a later reader recognize how large the revision actually is. Seeing only the sentence "the candidate no longer suffices," one might mistake it for a statistical error or a cancelled task; seeing the preserved items, one knows that what is restricted is the direct application under the later status.
Preservation is not a promise that these conditions will never change. New explicit material can continue to reopen them; this round simply obtained no such change, and one must not alter reality in a few extra places to make the revision look thorough.
Keeping a Remainder Does Not Protect Unsupported Claims
In RC's internal stance, a representation does not exhaust reality, and adverse material can force the current judgment to contract. The existence of unobserved conditions does not grant the old model permanent exemption from checking; restrictions already sufficiently explicit should enter the adoption.
At the same time, one piece of material usually restricts only some relations. There is no need to expand from an unsettled reception time into nothing being judgeable, nor to declare from some historical group's deviation that the probabilistic method is useless. Limited support corresponds to limited claims.
If feedback constrains the inputs, the scope, and the adoption, it can promote calibration; if it only adds hidden causes, removes counterexamples, or changes numbers after the fact, it may make the original explanation more rigid. The distinction should come from concrete revision records, not from a self-description of openness.
That contraction can still be followed by continuation is the capacity this book hopes to preserve. We can say explicitly which claim is currently unsupported, continue to keep the parts that have grounds, and let the next search correspond to the unresolved relation.
At 20:40, Saving the Revision Note
At 20:40 on Thursday, Gu Ning saved the new reply and the revision note. The commissioning party still cannot determine the reception time; the 11:20 rough B and the station's can-arrange note are preserved within their original scopes; the first version's complete confirmation has not been obtained, and the Friday 17:00 window has not ended.
The candidate three quarters remains a historical conditional-model scenario and cannot alone carry the current prediction under the later status. There is no evidence supporting a fixed deduction of one tenth, and no final probability has been formed. The historical item-by-item order and the pending-time fields remain to be searched again, and the attached-sentence process is not implemented.
What this chapter delivers is a revision note stating the object of change, the material basis, the new status, and the reopening items. The next chapter connects these restrictions into a provisional adoption: if a probability or range is to be given, how to let the reader know what it answers, what it depends on, and when it must be reopened.
