The laws of human society are co-signed by all beings—visible in statutes and decrees, or hidden in moral winds. Old and new contend; their change may quietly nourish like dew, or shatter shores like tidal waves—all rooted in the heart-mind and carried by the Way. Observations diverge; power becomes established. Those who hold the mirror set the standards; the rest bow their heads and follow. If one builds high walls to silence speech, or feeds ease to nurture foolishness, then those who hold the mirror lose their ground. Like merchants in the market, their purpose is mutual benefit—yet when the scales tilt unjustly, the chains become self-imposed. Though the net of law be dense, gaps will always arise to let light through. The upper build high citadels to secure themselves; the lower carve hidden paths to survive. Until divergent views grow fiercer, contradictions deeper, and tools for use scarcer—until the breaking of the formation becomes all the more violent.
