Before setting out, swap the toolbox: every determinacy was once undetermined — observation converges, locks, and accumulates infinite possibility into public reality. This is the book's measuring standard.

The ground holds all potential beings in parallel, neither existent nor non-existent. The settled is a result, not a starting point: before the dice land, every face coexists as potential; what gets locked is one frame of the ground, a snapshot.

Subject and object set together
Observation is an observer's directed filtering of the possibility distribution — executed by eyes and instruments alike. What is locked is genuinely valid determinacy — bridges really bear weight — yet it is a secondary construction that always carries its margin: it could have been locked otherwise.

Objective means cross-subject
Observations across subjects and levels verify one another, forming a positive reinforcement loop that converges into stable objective reality. The account is passed across generations by language and education: not an ounce of your certainty that the Earth orbits the Sun comes from your own observation.

Causal laws are trodden paths
A route trodden firm by billions of walks within the snapshot is a causal law; so stable that it never fails, it looks from inside the snapshot as if it always existed — apriority is only the appearance cast by a convergence path sufficiently stable.
Re-convergence
The dynamics of repricing
Observational divergence can call old consensus into question and force it to reopen the price. Re-convergence is local surgery: Newtonian mechanics was not erased — it continues to serve as a limiting case within the new framework; after the account is reopened, the world does not fall apart.

✗ "If everything is constructed, isn't the world an illusion where anything goes?"
✓ What is locked is genuinely valid determinacy, undiminished by its genesis; consensus has enormous inertia, and rewriting it demands equally large divergence. What the book rejects is never determinacy, but the added clause that determinacy is pre-given.
02 · Stop Two: Logic — the Boundary of Form
The first workshop is the walking path of Athens: for the first time, inference turned from tool into object. For two thousand years form kept winning — until it measured, on itself, the seam that never closes.
The Turn
Inference becomes the object
Aristotle suspended content and looked only at the skeleton of argument: none of the syllogism's conclusions was new — the new thing was the way of seeing. The revolution lies not in conclusions but in the object: the first explication of a pure convergence structure.
Variables
Form leaves content
Letters hold places: any content can fill them, and none needs to. With figures and moods classified, and invalid forms felled by counterexample, validity becomes checkable regardless of topic — form was not discovered; it was made by technique.
Locking
Inference becomes computation
Frege and Russell compressed inference into mechanically executable transformation rules: axioms and rules are explicitly locked convergence achievements. Symbolic language is an artificial accelerator of consensus reinforcement — divergence is not forbidden; it has nowhere to attach.

The system sees itself

✗ "Doesn't incompleteness mean reason is flawed and untrustworthy?"
✓ Quite the opposite — it is reason's own medical report: what is locked necessarily carries margin. Undecidable propositions are not defects but the mode of existence of locking itself; what has no boundary is not omniscience but nonexistence.
03 · Stop Three: Mathematics — a Building with Changeable Foundations
The second workshop is Alexandria: Euclid published his starting points, and geometry answered to itself ever after. The crack in the two-thousand-year perfect building proves its deepest freedom — the foundations can be changed.

Starting points published
The axiomatic method is the technique of explicitly publishing the starting points of a convergence path: once published, verification no longer needs to retrace the road of discovery, only to check the road given. Two millennia of cross-civilizational re-verification with zero failures amassed the thickest account.
The Seam
The fifth postulate misbehaves
The first four postulates say what may be done; the fifth asserts what must happen, reading like a theorem that merely had not been proved yet. It is the one brick in the perfect building that still shows the marks of having been laid.

Non-Euclidean re-convergence

What is changeable is the starting point, not any entry in the ledger; mathematics owes no debt to miracle, only to shared genesis and the wages of repeated re-convergence.
04 · Stop Four: Science — a Dialogue with the World
The third workshop is Padua and London: Galileo's grooved board, Boyle's glass receiver, Newton's Principia. Science institutionalized the dialogue with the world — a machine of re-convergence at the scale of a whole society.

Cutting a frame from the noise
Every design feature of the inclined plane closes a door: peel one observation out of the tangle of billions of variables and wash it into a weighable series. Experiment is controlled observation — only when the question is replicable can the answers be compared.

Boyle made the experiment a public event: results open, methods repeatable. Failed replication is not scandal but foundation — 'anyone following these steps should see the same' — the experimental report is a receipt issued to the joint account.

Explication completes convergence: the day Barbara was written down, it was verified. Logic owes the world nothing, and the world cannot refute a rule of inference — even the forms that deny it have been formatted by it.
